Power Greens Smoothie / Trying to Figure Out This Whole Life Thing

The world wasn’t made for us to think about it
(To think is to have eyes that aren’t well)
But to look at it and to be in agreement.

- Fernando Pessoa, A Little Larger Than the Entire Universe: Selected Poems

A lot of life these days.

Somehow I started jogging. And making my bed in the morning. There's also the power greens and banana smoothie with breakfast, as seen above. It's all part of a New Year's Resolution Reformation Project my cousins developed: only practical resolutions you can do Right Now. I can do those things. And those little things are really helping me get through this whole life thing right now. You can tell I'm looking for some guidance because I'm reading books like The Places that Scare You: A Guide to Fearlessness in Difficult Times and This Is How: Surviving What You Think You Can't. Certainly we all go through these sorts of things. Let's get through this together, shall we? Preferably with chocolate cake and a bit of bourbon.

Did I tell you I started drinking bourbons and whiskeys and scotches and other such things that give me some street cred? Champagne is like dancing. Red wines make me excitable. But, bourbon. Bourbon feels like a warm hug or a hand on your shoulder when you need it most.

The other evening someone asked Do you actually like that stuff?  Yeah, I guess I do. This time last year I thought anyone who enjoyed drinking whiskey was kidding themselves. Delusional, maybe. Then I accidentally joined a casual double-blind whiskey tasting with my then housemate and our mutual friend. I'm not going to say I turned over night, but I did get a chance to appreciate the uniqueness of each drink. The point is I was given the opportunity to notice. And after that I figured if I could change my opinion even a little in one evening, then what would happen if I kept trying? And so I kept trying and tasting and trying some more. Until one day it didn't burn anymore and it was like I was given a special key to a room filled with smoke and poker.

I like that I was able to change my mind so dramatically about something. It gives me hope in approaching thirty.

Yes, I said thirty.

In one month.

For now,
